Ben is a patient and thorough
trainer. Whether or not your llama boards at the Rancho Lobo y
Mariposa, he is available to train it for the show ring (halter or
performance) or for packing. His training fee will depend on
various factors, such as travel time and difficulty, but may be
negotiated in advance.
Ben's philosophy of llama training
draws on his experiences attending numerous training seminars, as well
as working for Bobra Goldsmith at Rocky Mountain Llamas and John and
Sharon Beacham of Pheasant Hill Farms. When first working with a
llama, he seeks to form a relationship of trust. He has found that
llamas thrive on consistency in training. Always offering the llama
immediate recognition when it makes progress, he leads it with a gentle but firm
hand until the training goal is achieved. Ben
is also willing to train you to show your llama or take it on the
trail. Many new llama owners require training, and training llama
and owner together is an excellent method.

Training for the show ring calls for
great trust between llama and person. Sometimes the person
requires training, as well as the animal.

Getting a llama to the point where he
or she will willingly follow your lead, at the proper distance, is a
crucial achievement in training.
